Unlike Western classical music, which is built upon the architecture of vertical harmony and chord progressions, traditional Arabic music thrives on a mesmerizing horizontal universe. It is a world governed by maqāmāt-intricate modal systems that paint specific emotional landscapes-and rhythmic cycles (īqā‘āt) that pulse with a heartbeat entirely distinct from Western meter. Here, sound is not rushed toward a resolution; rather, it unfolds organically, inviting the listener into an intimate, meditative space of deep contemplation. Under the banner of Nuova Civiltà Records and its curatorial lens Arabic Horizons, the compilation Majlis Al-Ṣafā' (The Assembly of Purity) gathers diverse artistic visions into a singular, cohesive sanctuary of classical acoustic mastery. Featuring contributions from Nūrayn, Samā‘ Al-Rūḥ, Ishrāq Al-Qalb, and Nūr Al-Fajr, this EP serves as a living tapestry of modern-traditional heritage.
